District Background
Dysart Unified School District serves over 23,000 pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students in the Northwest Phoenix Metropolitan area. The district encompasses 140 square miles, serving parts of El Mirage, Glendale, Surprise, Youngtown, and Maricopa County. The district is home to 16 elementary schools, 4 middle schools, 4 comprehensive high schools, a preschool, and 1 alternative program.
“A” rated Dysart Schools was voted best Public School District three years in a row, and is among the top-rated in the state of Arizona. Recognized both nationally and internationally with Cognia Accreditation, Dysart USD is dedicated to serving the needs of all children with high-quality academic coursework, before-and after-school programs, and services for the entire community.
Project Background
Like thousands of districts nationwide, Dysart needed to modernize its aging intercom and PA systems and begin the transition to reliable, IP based technology. Leadership recognized the need to move toward a unified, IP based communication platform that could scale with future requirements.
Challenges
Multiple analog systems were fragmented and outdated making it difficult to maintain consistent coverage, coordinate response, and support the district’s evolving safety expectations. Budget constraints meant they couldn’t rip and replace everything, so the district needed a solution that could bridge to their functioning analog infrastructure and keep installation impact low.
Solution
Working in tandem with the Pye-Barker Fire & Safety team in Scottsdale, Telecor eSeries was chosen with a hybrid upgrade path supporting analog devices still in working order. By modernizing the core platform with Ethernet based technology, the district expanded coverage, improved response speed, simplified communication workflows, and aligned with today’s safety expectations.
The overall solution includes Telecor’s award-winning visual command center – an easy-to-use desktop graphical user interface that gives staff simple, fast control over communications. Staff can make announcements, call rooms, activate schedules, play messages, and handle emergencies from on-screen icons. Dysart’s security team can see a mapped dashboard of the upgraded schools and engage lockdown remotely if needed. Everything is designed to be quick, visual, and dependable so staff can focus on work, not learning complicated equipment.
Safety is a top priority for the Dysart Unified School District. Standardization and remote capabilities have become staples in our efforts to modernize and supply the best possible products for our staff and students. The Telecor eSeries systems have provided us with an enhanced product that works within our existing framework. In addition to the daily use schedules and audio features, the “Districtwide Connect” allows us to manage emergency events across all of our campuses from a single location. The interface is easy to use and the combined support team with Telecor and Pye Barker has been amazing. We are excited to have all of our sites updated to eSeries in the coming years and explore other products as they are developed.
Results
Pye-Barker Fire & Safety has helped Dysart USD upgrade 11 schools to date with the remaining schools to be scheduled. The eSeries hybrid modernization plan allows for scalable growth and investment protection as select components can be replaced over time. Centralized control of announcements, paging, and two-way communication provide for seamless daily use and ensure critical messages are heard clearly and instantly.
