What is Alyssa’s Law
Alyssa’s Law is critical legislation designed to reduce law enforcement response time during life-threatening emergencies. It requires schools to install alarms directly linked to local law enforcement, ensuring officers can be dispatched as quickly as possible to address the threat and assist victims.
The law was introduced by the parents of 14-year-old Alyssa, a victim of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in 2018. Since then, Alyssa’s Law has been passed in Washington, Oregon, Utah, Oklahoma, Texas, Tennessee, Georgia, New Jersey, New York and Florida with pending legislation in many other states.
